The visibility of the water on the Kawaihae Reef outside the harbor was exceptional on March 06, 2025. After months of winter swells, there was a lull in the surf, and the water cleared up. I went for a snorkel tour in the inviting water. Green sea turtles were observed traversing and feeding within a short time, sometimes in pairs. Green sea turtles are residents here on the reef outside the harbor. They are often seen surfacing not far from shore. I did not bother photographing them at first due to their familiarity. That changed when more and more were seen nearby. I photographed 16, but there may have been up to 18 in a 300-meter loop I took. That is extraordinary.
Below is a link to the Google album documenting the green sea turtles for the year 2025.
