Division of Aquatic Resources,DAR arrived at Kawaihae Harbor late morning to assess the damages to the coral reef resulting from Hulakai’s double groundings.
The Hulakai’s second grounding caused more damages to live corals then its first grounding. kawaihae will lose its beach again
History is about to repeat itself when the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Harbors Division implements its 2035 Commercial Harbor Master Plan for Kawaihae Harbor shortly.
Kawaihae had a mile-long beach stretching from the north small boat harbor to the Heiau of Pu’ukoholā Heiau National Historic Site before dredging the reef and constructing the Kawaihae Harbor.… Read more “kawaihae will lose its beach again”
Kawaihae South Small Boat Harbor facilities still not open to public.
The Kawaihae South Small Boat Harbor is a $8.45 million project that was in the works for 11 years to the day it was dedicated on November 10, 2014 according to Representative Cindy Evans. $1.5 million was awarded at the time of its dedication for the third and final phase to install 45-foot long, three-lane launch ramp as preferred by majority of Hawaii boaters.… Read more “Kawaihae South Small Boat Harbor facilities still not open to public.”
