Four Hawksbill Sea Turtles Sighting

I saw four Hawksbill sea turtles today in the harbor. One, HI-044, “boy,” has been a resident since 2020.

A sea fan mystery

A sea fan was found close to the stairs from the break wall into the ocean outside Kawaihae Harbor. It lay in the sand about 6-7ft underwater. Other than a thin covering of algae, the sea fan was not damaged. I did not know then that sea fans are not found in Hawaii.… Read more “A sea fan mystery”

Explored area of Porites rus, plate, and pillar canyons.

The Kawaiahe Reef has spurs, reef features that reach like fingers out over the sand, forming small, narrow canyons. This highlighted area has Porites rus or plate and pillar coral that colonized it.
