This is a supplemental post to track the growth of the Antler coral as reported here.
On May 18, 2025, USACE surveyed the dolphin piers at Kawaihae Harbor ( see here). They used a small boat that allowed personnel to access those piers. An antler coral, Pocillopora grandis, colony was seen damaged soon afterward. The two events may be connected.
Update 3.10.2026

As expected, this Antler Coral grew at least 5 cm annually or perhaps even more than the average, as shown. I have organized the images as best as I could, given the underwater conditions.
Estimating or measuring growth height is challenging because living things like coral grow in complex ways. The polyps expand in multiple directions. The best I could do was take photos based on memory, amid the constantly shifting ocean conditions.
My conservative estimate is that this Antler coral exceeds the species’ recorded average. A bit of good news.
Update 12.20.2025
Antler Coral Growth

Antler coral growth with scale 9202025
The rough growth (extension) of this Pocillopora grandis is 2.5 cm between March 18, 2025, and September 20, 2025. Those interested in comparing studies of Pocillopora species can view them here.
It is impressive for a coral species to grow 2.5 cm in six months after being damaged.
