Lindsey Kramer of the Division of Aquatic Resources, DAR, and assistant Julia Rose of Nature Conservancy spent over two hours on May 10, 2017, replanting coral on the inner harbor of Kawaihae Reef.  We were out on a calm day with fair visibility. This area is recovering nicely. I estimate about 20% of the condition and coverage before the Global Bleaching Event of 2015 and the August 2015 Flash Flood.
Lindsey saw a Honu’ea Hawaiian hawksbill turtle near the area where she was working. Green sea turtles are common here, but hawksbill turtles are rare.
