9.1.2015 Coral bleaching started at this location, and mound and lobe corals were photographed. The water temperature is 84F-86F. Last year, the bleaching events on other islands were much worse. This is much worse this year at this location than last. A temperature of 84-86F was recorded on 8.16.2015. Flash floods from above water shed on 8.17.2015 and 8.19.2015 clouded the water near shore and in the Kawaihae Reef and Spencer Bay until today, two weeks later. The visibility is still poor but much better than the previous week, with a WNW swell that persisted for about one week.
