This is a visual survey of the remaining coral reef and coral that re-populate the man-made beach in the Kawaihae Harbor since the harbor was constructed after destroying the Kawaihae Reef in 1959. This little reef is in the path and location of the proposed new Pier 3 to be built as planned by 2035. Therefore, its in peril of imminent destruction. The Kawaihae Beach aka Coral Flats or LSD Beach will be extinct along with all the coral life beyond it. Construction of a new Pier 3 will be required excavation down to 40ft. This survey was done to be a record of a thriving coral reef in case any Environmental Impact Statement past or future neglect to include it in the planned expansion of the Kawaihae Harbor 2035.
